#MondayMuse: Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba is the queen of boho-chic. She knows how to make an outfit appear effortless, yet always adds accessories like a scarf or hat to make her style stand-out above that of others. Jessica is today’s #MondayMuse showcasing a look that is great for a hot mid-summer day. She wears an all-over printed black and white maxi dress and flat sandals for an outing with her daughter Honor (who is also dressed chic and adorably age appropriate in a denim jacket and sundress). She keeps her jewelry simple, wearing a silver necklace and gold bracelet. The statement-piece which gives her look an effortless appeal is the black hat, which is also a practical component for a sunny day. I think Jessica Alba makes all girls want to unleash their inner bohemian style.

Even a rummaged style needs a muse.

#MondayMuse: Victoria Beckham

Karl Lagerfeld was once quoted stating, “One is never over-dressed or under-dressed in a little black dress." To me, this quote is perfection. A little black dress can be both classy and sexy, or glamorous yet redefined; it all depends upon how you style it. Victoria Beckham has become well-known for possessing the poised and chic style that the classic LBD articulates. As today’s #MondayMuse, Victoria is the perfect example of how to wear a little black, chic, ensemble during the summer. She keeps her look feminine and soft by pairing her dress with aviators and wavy hair. She also focuses on minimalism by only adding a white clutch and pumps for a contrasting hue among the all black. I love the ease of Victoria’s style. It showcases that the little black dress can truthfully be fashioned for every occasion.

Even a rummaged style needs a muse.

Happy Fourth Of July!

Happy Independence Day. May we remember on this day all who continuously work to keep our country safe and the freedoms America provides. I hope you are all able to spend time with family and friends, while having fun, eating delicious food, and rocking your favorite red, white, and blue, all American, fashions.

#MondayMuse: Eva Chen

If you are not familiar with Eva Chen, I encourage you to look up her incredible work. Previously the Beauty Director at Teen Vogue, it was announced a few weeks ago that Eva Chen has been appointed by Anna Wintour to be the new Editor in Chief of Lucky Magazine. I had the incredible opportunity to meet Eva in 2010 when I attended Teen Vogue Fashion University in New York City, where I was immediately drawn to her determination and poise. Eva has an innate sense of style, yet also is articulate, genuine, and always interested in giving her advice to industry hopefuls. Her website features daily segments that include her outfits of the day, accessories, manicures, backstage tips from photo shoots and runway shows, and different stories about her travels. She also answers readers’ questions weekly about all things fashion, beauty, career, and style. Eva is the perfect #MondayMuse because she has mastered the art of having a signature style that really is all her own. Eva couples colors, patterns, and textures, while also being an advocate of high-low pairings. As a social media maven, Eva showcases her daily looks on Instagram. Some days you can see Eva wearing Isabel Marant sneakers with a flowy leather skirt and a tee. Then other days she wears Chanel and Zara. I crave to mix silhouettes and styles like she does. Today, Eva serves as my inspiration for a perfect feminine summer look. In this look snapped during Fashion Week, Eva wears the black and white trend accentuated with green in her top to give her a hint of color. Being knowledgeable of all things beauty, she keeps her makeup fresh and natural with her statement being a fiery red lip. She also keeps her accessories simple by adding a beautiful (yet practically designed) Celine bag and a pair of heels. I have admired Eva’s work ethic and style aesthetic since meeting her back in 2010. I only hope to continue to curate a career and sense of style for myself as eloquently as she has. If you are like me, you can’t wait to pick up your copy of Lucky with Eva’s name set to be in the masthead as Editor in Chief this September. Congratulations Eva, well deserved. See more of her stylish looks below.

On Trend + On Budget: Black and Yellow

During the winter months I tend to stick to the basics. My most notarized basics include all black ensembles, button downs, and high-waist skirts. By the time summer comes around I am usually ecstatic to alter my wardrobe to include a compilation of florals, brights, and fresh patterns. Why those styles are what you will normally find me wearing, some summer mornings I find myself reaching again for the basics in my closet. Over time I have learned I can embrace even the most 'basic' looks and make them summer-ready, simply by adding a pop of color. For this outfit, I chose yellow to be my color pop, focusing on the yellow in the belt of my striped skirt. To compliment the look I added my favorite summer yellow satchel from Marshall’s and I decided to play up the S/S 13’ low heel trend with Vera by Vera Wang sandals rummaged from a local thrift store (previously featured here). My tip to you: The next time you feel your summer outfit is heading back to the basics, add a pop of color and you will see your outfit transformed...so much that you may even want to give it a twirl.

Summer Solstice Style

To coincide with the last #MondayMuse post, a maxi - dress or skirt- is a great piece that can be incredibly versatile in your wardrobe. We often hope that summer will release the inner spontaneity in us.  A maxi allows us to be dressed to impress, for any occasion, without over thinking the look. Whether you have casual afternoon plans or a night out with friends or your boyfriend; maxis can be dressed up or down. For a casual outfit pair a maxi dress with flat sandals, a hobo or cross-body bag, chunky bracelets, and your favorite ray bans. If you are trying to achieve a more sophisticated ensemble, go for heels, a clutch, dainty bracelets, and earrings. For my personal look, I choose to resemble a mixture of the two. The maxi I’m wearing is from Kohl’s clearance rack. It is a lightweight, cotton material perfect for the start of hot summer days. I paired it with Vera by Vera Wang wedge sandals, also on sale at Kohl’s and previously featured here. To accessorize, I utilized a Tommy Hilfiger clutch/cross-body that I snagged off of the clearance rack at Marshall’s. I also added studded hoop earrings.

Lastly, in honor of the first official day of summer tomorrow, here are a few cathartic thoughts: Enjoy the weather, forget about your worries, embrace the power of now while being OK with not having all of the answers for the future, take a chance, let go, and love being you…all while being stylish, wearing your favorite maxi, and of course, Rummaging to the Runway.

Happy Last Day of Spring.
